Accessories and attachments have been used widely by all types of sewn product manufacturers, for either enhancing the scope of operations or improving the quality of the sewn product further. Accessories like bobbins and needles are at the delivery end of the machine, and if the part delivering the final output is of low quality and endurance, the finished product is bound to be affected in a major way. However, there is another aspect to the whole segment of accessories and attachments – spare parts of sewing machines, which are as important as the machine itself. Availability of spare parts contributes greatly to the performance of the machines as most of them are consumable parts requiring replacement, time after time and that too only with the genuine and quality parts to ensure optimal utilization of the machine. At the GTE, many companies with specialization in manufacturing these minute but critical components of a sewing machine are on display.

Present at the GTE, Cerliani would be showcasing its latest DC20 and DC20 PVD coated hooks, especially for garment and embroidery applications. The DC20 PVD (Plasma Vapour Deposition) coating allows reduction in the friction between baskets and hook, enlarging the life of the hook by three times, reducing the required tension of the thread along with the need of oiling.
“Probably the most important component of the sewing machine is the hook which is considered by technicians as the heart of the sewing machine. With a Cerliani hook, high performance and efficiency is guaranteed with a perfect stitch every time,” avers Daniele. He also added that the type of product manufactured by Cerliani is not high on investment like other technologies and solutions, but plays an equally important part in ensuring the quality of the finished product.[/tab]

[tab title=”Krishna Lamicoat ‘Sustainable’ route to success”]
Krishna Lamicoat, manufacturer of specialized paper and films for the garment industry, has consciously chosen to take the ‘sustainable’ route in all areas of operations as a way of life and work. Founded by the dynamic Amar Chhajer, the ISO 9001:2008 certified company with over four decades of industry exposure is first company manufacturing specialized paper products in India. The company has introduced concepts like 5S, Kaizen, TQM and Lean in its new unit in Bangalore resulting in huge savings and wastage reduction.
Keeping up pace with new developments in technology for automation, the company is the first to replace imported paper products for the garment industry with indigenously made products that too made by machines that have been developed in-house. With associate companies in Colombo, Kolkata and Delhi, the company claims to be the largest manufacturer of CAD/CAM paper products in India.
Having participated in a number of international fairs, including IMB, Cologne, the company at GTE will provide alternate products for the garment manufacturers in the CAD/CAM consumables range instead of the virgin paper which is used all over the world in CAD/CAM. “We have already converted the Indian consumers to recycled papers, thus reducing cost on the consumables, i.e. plotter paper, perforated paper, polywrap, tissue lay separator, etc. up to 20-30%,” says Ashok Chhajer, Director, Krishna Lamicoat. He further added that internationally they want to expose these products at exhibitions so that garment manufacturing becomes cheaper.[/tab]
[tab title=”Mahaveer Industrial Suppliers Latest technologies from New Tech, FDM, Sprayway, SilverStar, Strong H & Edge”]
Bangalore-based Mahaveer Industrial Suppliers has always been pioneers in providing spares and attachments. They have now added many more new products to its portfolio to mark the same stamp of quality and service. The company would be displaying innovations from New Tech, Turkey; FDM, China; Sprayway, USA; SilverStar, Korea; Strong H, Taiwan; and Edge, China.
MISPL with more than 25 years of experience in the industry strongly believes ‘Automation’ to be the key to the garment industry to get an edge over the increasing labour costs and operating overheads. “Quality norms imposed by the buyers are getting stringent day by day, further highlighting the need of automation to standardize the quality of the product,” says M L Jain, Director, MISPL.
Automation is the solution to the rising labour costs and shortage of skilled manpower. New Tech from Turkey specializing in automations for apparel industry worldwide has wide range of machines for manufacturing trousers, suits, denims, knits, etc. The pocket welt machines, surgers, dart & pleat machines, placket setters, side seaming machines and many more will be of huge significance for an apparel manufacturer going for investing in automations. The automated sewing unit for attaching trouser zipper fly, New-Tech 2700/1, is among the most in-demand sewing automates from the Turkish pioneer. The single needle lockstitch machine has a programmable micro-processor control unit with an LCD display and a pneumatic thread trimmer; ensure total control over the material while sewing. The most outstanding feature of the machine is the left and right notch cutting system, eliminating even the least amount of manual work. Equipped with a programmable start & end sewing photocell control system and forward/back-tack dense & loose stitch adjustment system, the machine guarantees a high output of 1000 pieces per 8 hours.
“Apparel manufacturers should adopt technology for cutting down the electricity cost, and to help them achieve the same, MISPL would be showcasing servo motor technology attached to the new version of FD 9700 series direct drive single needle lock stitch machine. FDM’s servo motors as a replacement for the clutch motors saves around 70% of power and increases the overall efficiency by 17% along with reduced noise levels and heat generation,” adds Jain.
Also on display will be the offerings from Strong H of Taiwan, known for its cutting knives, trimmers and gauge sets along with high quality attachments for various sewing machines. Strong H exporting to more than 40 countries has acquired a 70% share in this product segment worldwide. All knives and cutters from Strong H adopt unique metallurgical combinations according to the usage and lifespan of the product, hence helping the companies save a lot on service and part replacements. Blades from Strong H for straight knife cutters go through a one of its kind heat-tempering process that hardens the blade’s cutting area while maintaining flexibility of its body. Every blade is precisely machined to hold critical tolerances of +/- 0.001 inches.
Taking a strong stand against the imitations of products manufactured by various international brands locally, Jain urges for the support of the apparel manufacturers to help them curb this malice by checking the anti-fake holograms and also the unique region identification code on the spares. Some part-time manufacturers are providing products with anti-fake holograms and also with unique region identification codes, one must always check for before buying any product. These fake parts would not only hinder the working of the machine but will also damage the product being manufactured.[/tab]

[tab title=”Schmetz High quality needles for fine Knits”]Ever since 1851, the name Schmetz – as family name and brand name – stands for manufacturing of high quality needles for all kinds of textile and non-textile joining processes. The company has continued to be a guarantor for best possible sewing results for all sewn product manufaturers.
Challenging sewing processes require the use of special needle geometries, as conventional needle geometries often do not correspond to the requirements of sewing all kinds of materials, for instance in the case of very-fine knitted materials if the sewing needle is not in the right streamlined shape with the perfect tip sharpness, the delicate fabric is bound to be damaged and for special operations like the ones discussed, Schmetz offers a wide range of needles of special geometry like the KN and SF series.
The KN point and SF point needles have been for knitted garment manufacturers aimed at reducing the garment rejections, the needles are extremely slim equipped with the SUK ball point. Hence needles when penetrating the fabric, doesn’t break-up its fibres, penetrating them as smoothly as possible. Being narrower in comparison to standard needle, from the point to middle eye area, the KN series needles are the perfect choice for sewing very fine knitwear. However when sewing ultra-fine knitwear one must use SF needle with extremely full-length slim shape, which makes penetration even smoother.[/tab]
