The manufacturer of specialty chemicals Archroma has unveiled a new bio-based, long-lasting water-repellent coating that it claims will assist mills and brands in creating clothing that is both soft to the touch and effectively repels rain and stains.
According to Archroma, the new Phobotex NTR-50 LIQ was created to achieve a very soft handle, great water repellency on a variety of fibre types, and avoid undesirable effects like chalk spotting and yellowing.
It is perfect for clothing, outdoor clothing, and household textiles because it is reported to work particularly effectively on synthetic fibres and their mixtures.
According to ASTM D6866, Archroma noted that the new long-lasting water repellent has a 50% renewable carbon content and is devoid of formaldehyde and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
The company revealed that its lack of a crosslinker makes it easier to operate. It can, however, be used in conjunction with crosslinkers such as Arkophob NTR-40 to improve its resilience to washing and/or dry cleaning.
Georg Lang, director of the Archroma Textile Effects market area, emphasised the company’s commitment to guiding the fashion and textile sectors towards a more sustainable future by emphasising “Planet Conscious” innovation.
In addition, Archroma noted that Phobotex NTR-50 LIQ offers outstanding runnability, which guarantees great production safety and repeatable performance even at high temperatures.
It is supposed to be beneficial for mills trying to resolve problems like roller build-up, strong chalk markings, or harsh handles.
Additionally, according to the company, textiles used in sportswear, fashion, and homes that have been treated with Phobotex NTR-50 LIQ durable water repellent are eligible for the High IQ Repel assurance programme, which guarantees to customers that these products meet stringent environmental standards and offer performance, protection, and comfort.
