In its endeavour to create lot of awareness about water saving, Indian Government launched Jal Shakti Abhiyan – a water conservation campaign that would focus on renovation of water bodies, regulating industrial consumption, harvesting rainwater and reuse of wastewater.
How could the apparel manufacturers be then left behind! It is indeed a delight to see Indian apparel manufacturers also contributing in this initiative by doing their best.
Pratibha Syntex, Indore, is one such company that has been doing a lot for water conservation. Working for many global as well as Indian retailers and brands, the company is known for its sustainable initiatives and also has zero liquid discharge compliant facility.
It is recycling 100 per cent of waste water oozing out from dye house through its state-of-the-art effluent treatment plant and four-stage RO.
With the treatment, it is recovering 97 per cent of water, which is infused back into the dying processes again. The remaining 3 per cent of water gets evaporated by three-stage multi-stage evaporators.
There are rainwater harvesting plants too in the premises, which have the capacity to collect 4,800 kilolitres of water. The water is then utilised to increase the water level of the earth there.
The company’s Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), which is based on latest technology, uses domestic waste generated through 2,000 people residing in the campus. This waste water is treated to generate 68 per cent of recovery. The recovered water is used in boiler and to top up the dye house requirement. The remaining 32 per cent water is used for gardening and humidification plant.
“Considering the fact that textile industry is the second largest pollutant of water after oil and gas industry, it is our responsibility to make adequate reuse of water,” said Amrit Pal Singh Chhabra, Head, Engineering Department.
Owing to all these and many more efforts, Pratibha Syntex has reduced its fresh water consumption from 1,400 kilolitres per day in 2010-11 to 500 kilolitres per day on date.
For these efforts, the Pollution Control Board awarded the company with Madhya Pradesh State Level Environment Award in 2018.
