Almost every manufacturer of Jaipur is producing tunics (kurties) for domestic market but the concern is the decreasing quality, which many fear, could spoil the market. Several Jaipur based exporters/domestic manufacturers confirmed that tunics are being manufactured without interlock, as such stitching quality has been neglected. “Yes, many small manufacturers are doing this but they don’t realize that it will impact the business, and only quality manufacturers will be able to continue in this segment in the long run. They are selling tunics at the rate of Rs. 80 by compromising on fabric and overall quality,” said a small manufacturer of Jaipur, who was earlier doing export with two buyers but now making tunics for organized retailers. On the other hand it is also creating difficulties for exporters as they are facing difficulties to find jobworkers as these jobworkers prefer making tunics for domestic market rather than dresses and tops for exporters.
