The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) convened a significant meeting at its Uttara office on September 13 to discuss the proposed amendments to the Bangladesh Labour Act 2006 and their potential implications for the country’s garment sector.
Presided over by BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan, the session was attended by notable industry leaders, including former presidents Anwar-ul-Alam Chowdhury (Parvez), Kazi Moniruzzaman, and Dr. Rubana Huq. The gathering also included Vice President (Finance) Mizanur Rahman, current board members, as well as past vice presidents and directors.
During the discussion, BGMEA representatives highlighted the importance of labour law reforms that reflect the specific conditions of Bangladesh and the realities faced by the apparel industry. They underscored that any legal adjustments should aim to protect both the industry’s interests and employment opportunities, while also promoting the sector’s long-term sustainability.
