A high-level delegation from the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) of Singapore called upon the office bearers of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) recently.
During the visit, the delegation, led by Francis Chong, Senior Director of Emerging Markets at MTI, including Audrey Tan, Director of South Asia at Enterprise Singapore (ESG); Sheela Pillai, Head of Mission at the Singapore Consulate in Dhaka; Uma Muniandy, Deputy Director of Emerging Markets at MTI; Arjun Jayaraman, Assistant Director of Emerging Markets at MTI; and Benjamin Chu, Development Partner for South Asia at ESG met with Shahidullah Azim, Vice President of BGMEA, to explore potential trade and investment opportunities between Singapore and Bangladesh.
Abdullah Hil Rakib, Director of BGMEA, and Shovon Islam, Chair of BGMEA’s Standing Committee on Press, Publication, and Publicity, were also present at the meeting.
The meeting focused on the discussion of a free trade agreement (FTA) between the two countries and emphasised the collaboration between both sides to achieve mutual trade benefits.
Shahidullah Azim mentioned that Bangladesh was currently undergoing significant infrastructure development, including the expansion of seaports, road and rail connectivity, and airports, in preparation for the next phase of development.
