Considered to be among the five fastest growing export houses in Bangalore, Indian Designs has seen real growth only in the last three years wherein it has expanded its capacity from 1500 machines to around 4000 machines with 2 new units on the outskirts of Bangalore. The core strength of the company is tops, though they are increasingly doing bottoms for regular customers. This increased focus on bottoms has resulted in an upcoming factory for bottoms, which is expected to be fully operational next year.
The choice of manufacturing base is also interesting in Marul, which is approximately 40 kilometers away from Bangalore. The new unit will start its production with about 1000 machines, being setup exclusively to make an assortment of various bottoms. “At present our products are primarily shipped to the UK market. Even as we have been working on value-added, low quantity orders, last year proved to be a boost for the business and we explored new styles in bulk orders in bottoms, necessitating a dedicated factory,” shares Naseer Humayun, MD, Indian Designs.
A conscious decision was taken three years ago to change the structure of the company and make it more buyer-responsive, this drive included increasing capacities, putting all operations under FastReact for better management and planning of manufacturing, building forward and backward integration chains with vendors and working more aggressively on employee engagement. With positive vibes from customers the vision for the upfront company, which has a current turnover of Rs. 350 crore, is to touch Rs. 1000 crore turnover in five years’ time, and the proactive attitude of the company is aligned to the goal.
