Setting up highest levels of sustainability compliance in the textile industry through their eco-driven initiatives, specialist sewing thread manufacturer American & Efird (A&E) has claimed zero liquid discharge plant in Perundurai, India, and 50% recycle-reuse facility in Dongguan, China in its just published 2011-12 sustainability report, based on yarn spinning, dyeing and finishing facilities. The company, working with some of the world’s largest retailers and brands is operating through 31 manufacturing centres and 76 distribution locations in 41 countries.
A&E has made a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of more than 9%, a 16.8% improvement in water conservation and a 2.1% saving in electricity consumption, in the last six years says the report. The report reflects what A&E refers to as its “continued commitment and leadership to environmental sustainability and social responsibility”.
“We’re proud that our latest sustainability report shows greater cumulative results from the impact of our efforts and investments. The water conserved by A&E’s global operations during a year could supply 15.5 million people in India with fresh water for a day,” said Vice-President for environmental matters, John Eapen, on the report’s publication.
