The BGMEA places a strong emphasis on enhancing the nutrition and general health of garment industry employees. This information was presented by the organisation’s vice president, Rakibul Alam Chowdhury, at a training session for the BGMEA Hospital Chittagong staff that was arranged in the conference room of the BGMEA facility in Chittagong by NNS and GAIN, a joint venture of the National Nutrition Service.
He emphasised the need to provide workers with adequate diet and health care, stating that they are the industrial institutions’ primary engine and vitality. They play a crucial part in the nation’s export industry. The workers’ unceasing efforts have led to the nation’s development. The labour force is thus referred to as the proud partners of the new Bangladesh.
According to him, if the health of the workforce is good, industry will turn, and when industry turns, the nation will advance. But regrettably, due to genuine dietary deficiencies and a lack of health knowledge, our nation loses output worth thousands of crores of Taka every year. In the apparel business, production of goods fit for export is being cut by 20 per cent due to malnutrition alone.
Rakibul Alam Chowdhury added, “The current world is a world of competition. There is no alternative to increasing productivity if we are to survive in competition with the outside world. Those who have received training on nutrition and health awareness today, I hope our industries will benefit from your program.”
The training meeting was also attended by the director of BGMEA M. Ahsanul Haq, Mohammad Rakib Al Nasser and garment owners.
