Thanks to increased demand for recycled yarns and fabrics globally leading to major portion of waste cotton and textile scraps being shipped abroad, spinners in Bangladesh are now facing shortage of the same.
This is as per reports which maintained Bangladesh as the second-largest apparel producer in the world, sees a huge volume of cotton textile scraps even as an increasing number of fashion retailers and brands prefer the reuse and recycling of garments to avoid environmental damage.
However, a section of local traders in Bangladesh reportedly feels encouraged to export waste cotton and fabrics than sell them in the local market because of the price factor as per millers even as the shipments of waste cotton and scrap rose 49.67 per cent year-on-year to US $ 153.38 million in the July-December half of the current financial year, which was reportedly US $ 102.48 million in the same period of the previous year.
