‘Tex-Suraksha’ is a unique mobile application, being developed by the Surat police to prevent and detect financial fraud within the textile industry.
Surat, which happens to be a bustling textile hub, needs to be safeguarded from planned financial rackets.
‘Tex-Suraksha’ will help gather information regarding each and every trader and broker in the textile market and provide such information to the users.
An estimated 60,000 shops operate in the city’s textile market, with over 50,000 traders and brokers doing business.
This became necessary for the police in the absence of a centralised data management system, making it easier for fraudulent people to work among genuine businessmen. These fraudsters do business in crores, buying raw material from suppliers. Although, they are prompt with their payments initially, they stealthily collect the maximum amount of goods possible during three to four months’ period which is generally the acceptable credit window in the textile market. After making as much purchases possible, they sell off all the material, without paying the creditors, shut shop and disappear into thin air.
“Through this application, the police will collect data of businessmen operating from over 60,000 shops. Their photos, native addresses and other details will be stored in the application. This data will help police in detecting crime and to nab the fraudsters,” Surat Commissioner of Police Ashish Bhatia said.
The police will first gather all information available regarding each and every market developer, shop owner, tenant and broker and upload all that data into the application. “A user can access the data on the app with password to check details about a businessman. It will prove helpful to a businessman to carry out a safe business,” Salabatpura police station PI B K Vanar said.
