Fast fashion giant SHEIN – which itself has been the subject of multiple lawsuits for copying designs – is reversing roles by taking fashion app Temu to court for stealing thousands of images from its website.
The Gen Z-friendly Chinese retailer is suing its competitor in London’s High Court for copyright infringement.
The largest fashion store in the world at the moment, SHEIN, claims to have “identified thousands of instances” where independent merchants on Temu have exploited images from SHEIN’s website to peddle their goods.
Temu was accused of “competing unfairly” by SHEIN, according to the Telegraph. SHEIN is suing Temu and requesting at least £ 100,000 in damages and an order for the removal of all infringing posts.
This recent court filing isn’t the first time SHEIN commenced a legal battle with Temu. In December 2022, SHEIN sued Temu in the US, accusing its rival of “deliberately imitating and pretending to be the SHEIN brand”.
