Channel makes the much-awaited announcement of the appointment of its new artistic director, the luxury brand appointed Matthieu Blazy for the position. Blazy is among the first to be externally appointed since Karl Lagerfeld’s appointment in 1983 in the luxury house.
Referring to Blazy as a highly gifted designer, Chanel’s Global Executive Chairman, Alain Wertheimer and Global CEO of Chanel, Leena Nair, said that the brand aims to be a leader in the luxury segment with Blazy’s vision and talent, according to a report. They further added that under the leadership of the current Chanel President, Bruno Pavlovsky, the newly appointed art director will “shape what’s next and write a new page in Chanel’s creation”.
Blazy is a renowned talent in the fashion industry and is best known for his work at Bottega Veneta. During his tenure at the brand, he revitalised the brand and led to significant growth and critical acclaim. He served as the Design Director in 2020 at Bottega Veneta before taking up the role of Creative Director in 2021. He also drove the Kering-owned brand to make remarkable sales amid the luxury slowdown.
The appointment comes after the departure of Virginie Viard, who held the position for five years following Lagerfeld’s passing. The decision to choose Blazy signals Chanel’s commitment to innovation and its desire to attract a new generation of luxury consumers.
With this appointment, Chanel aims to further solidify its position as a leading luxury brand and continue its legacy of timeless elegance and cutting-edge design.
