Recently, Levi’s announced that its flagship store in Kyoto, Japan will reopen, introducing Japanese customers to its NextGen retail model.
Situated in the Teramachi Kyogoku retail area, the redesigned store is 570 square metres large across four stories—a considerable improvement over its previous footprint of 250.8 square metres over two stories.
The ground level of the Kyoto shop offers a Levi’s Tailor Shop experience for alteration, restoration, and customisation services, underscoring the brand’s emphasis on self-expression.
Consumers can add distinctive embellishments to their Levi’s clothing, like fabric panelling, embroidery, patches, and pins. Customers can purchase unique patches made by local illustrator Hideto Honda and rare materials from the Chingireya antique textile business, which are only available at the Kyoto location.
The store features classic Levi’s staples including the 501 line in addition to men’s and women’s clothing. In conjunction with its reopening, Levi’s has also unveiled limited-edition merchandise, such as 501 jeans designed by fashion director and stylist Akio Hasegawa and t-shirts with a unique silk-screened 501 calligraphy design created by artist Ryusuke Arise.
“As we strive to cultivate lifelong denim fans around the world, we remain committed to bringing the best and fullest expression of the Levi’s brand to their doorstep, while delivering impactful and elevated shopping experiences that resonate with them,” said David Hamaty, general manager for North Asia at Levi’s.
