Eternal-owned quick commerce platform Blinkit expects to cross 3,500 stores by March 2027 and reach around 5,000 stores by March 2028, as it expands into smaller Indian cities.
Eternal CFO Akshant Goyal announced the targets while reporting the company’s Q2 FY27 results.
He said newer stores in smaller cities and stores focused on emerging product categories are meeting the company’s margin and payback expectations.
In a letter to shareholders, Eternal founder and CEO Albinder Dhindsa said smaller cities represent an opportunity to create new demand and shopping habits.
He noted that organised retail in these markets has not fully developed, leaving gaps in product selection and pricing. Blinkit aims to address these gaps by making a wider range of products available within minutes.
According to Dhindsa, new Blinkit stores in smaller cities are reaching around 1,000 orders per day within a timeframe similar to that of new stores in metropolitan markets.
However, the company acknowledged that building supply infrastructure in smaller cities remains challenging. It is developing first-mile capabilities by sourcing products from brand warehouses through mother warehouses that supply these markets.
In Q2 FY27, Blinkit’s net order value (NOV) grew 79.3% year-on-year to Rs 20,940 crore, registering 22.2% growth over the previous quarter. Eternal reported a profit of Rs 184 crore for Blinkit, compared with a loss of Rs 156 crore in the corresponding period, according to the company’s reported results.
