The global leading e-retailer, Amazon, recently announced a partnership with Western Union that will increase shopping opportunities for its global customers as it enables the international payment option.
Several Amazon consumers from a selected number of countries will now have the provision to pay using COD option in their local currency even for online purchases that are across borders.
The option will be shown over the checkout page of the cart. Once the customers select it, they will receive a code and a set of instructions instructing them method of payment for their purchases that will be done at the Western Union nearest to them.
“There are people in the world who want greater access to Amazon’s huge product selection but paying for those purchases has been a real obstacle for many customers,” said Hikmet Ersek, president and CEO of Western Union, in a press release. “We’re leveraging our money movement platform to make it easier to shop global and pay local. By facilitating the complex foreign exchange and settlement process, we’re opening up more consumer choices and access to online shopping for tens of millions of potential new Amazon customers.”
Amazon’s collaboration with Western Union will be a beneficial feat for both as cross-border shopping is set to make up 20 per cent of e-commerce by 2022 as projected by market research company Forrester Research. It also decreases the fuss of online currency exchanges, which will entice international customers even more.
Western Union functions through a C2C payment model in over 200 countries and territories and offers digital transactions in more than 50.
