For Ridhi Mehra, craftsmanship wasn’t something she one day happened to stumble upon in a design studio, it was something that was intricately woven into her childhood. Long before she launched her eponymous label in 2012, Ridhi had already received an education that no design school could offer, surrounded by fabric swatches, embroidery samples, fittings and conversations around design. She grew up observing her mother and aunt navigate the intricate ecosystem that powers Indian fashion, and the perseverance behind the glamour — an experience that helped her form an appreciation for both artisanal excellence and the business acumen needed to transform creativity into a sustainable brand.
Indian occasion wear has undergone a quiet yet powerful transformation over the past decade, fuelled by women wanting silhouettes that are effortless and elegant at the same time. Few Indian designers and brands have been able to respond to this shift as intuitively as Ridhi Mehra has. Since launching her label, the Delhi-based couturier has reinterpreted contemporary Indian dressing through fluid silhouettes, intricate craftsmanship and an unmistakably modern design language that has created a label that reflects the changing aspirations of Indian women as well as the enduring appeal of timeless couture garments.
“In a market where fashion is increasingly saturated, we identified a clear whitespace for luxury Indian wear that feels contemporary rather than overly traditional. I wanted to create couture that can be reworn and styled beyond weddings, while offering occasion wear that balances detail and luxury with ease, comfort, and movement. At the heart of the label has always been a focus on timeless design rather than purely trend-led fashion.” Ridhi Mehra told Apparel Online India in an exclusive interview.

PRODUCT ASSORTMENT, PRICING & TARGET MARKET
The Ridhi Mehra label offers an extensive range of luxury occasion wear across both womenswear and menswear, spanning prêt, festive and couture collections. The womenswear segment includes prêt styles that retail onwards of ₹20,900, kurta sets and sarees priced from ₹60,000 onwards, and lehenga sets beginning at ₹95,200, alongside a bespoke custom couture offering. The menswear line features kurta sets priced onwards of ₹35,000, bandhgalas starting at ₹48,000, sherwanis from ₹1,00,000 onwards, as well as made-to-order couture pieces.
The brand caters to men and women aged between 21 and 60, with a strong focus on modern brides, wedding guests, festive shoppers and luxury occasionwear consumers. While its primary market remains India, the label has built a significant presence across international markets including the UK, USA and Canada, serving the global Indian diaspora. Increasingly, it is also resonating with a younger generation of luxury consumers seeking contemporary interpretations of Indian fashion, marking a new chapter for the brand.
“The preservation and modern presentation of Indian techniques remains one of the most undervalued aspects of the fashion industry in India, with immense potential for disruption. There is also a need for more meaningful artisan storytelling, greater adoption of technology enabled luxury retail, and stronger global positioning for Indian luxury brands to unlock the sector’s full potential. DESIGNING FOR THE NEXT GENERATION
As India’s younger consumers embrace a more global outlook of fashion while also rediscovering the value of local identity, Ridhi Mehra label has evolved its design language to bridge the two worlds. The label pairs globally relevant silhouettes with Indian craftsmanship, presenting heritage through a contemporary lens rather than as something static.
This philosophy is reflected across every collection, where modern cuts, lightweight construction and wearability options are combined with intricate craftsmanship and timeless detailing. From pre-draped sarees to bridal ensembles, each piece is designed to feel current, versatile and intuitive for today’s consumer, encouraging women to celebrate Indian fashion in a way that complements their evolving lifestyles.
Equally central to the brand is an inclusive approach to design that allows every silhouette to empower, flatter the feminine form and celebrate individuality, ensuring that couture feels accessible and relevant to women across generations.
MANUFACTURING AND SOURCING
Founded in 2012, Ridhi Mehra’s manufacturing unit is headquartered in the heart of New Delhi and is supported by an in-house design and production team. The label works extensively with luxurious fabrics such as organza, chiffon, georgette, raw silk and velvet, with each collection featuring a thoughtful mix of sourced fabrics, custom developed prints and materials that have been adapted to suit its unique design direction.
For sourcing its raw materials and fabrics, the brand primarily relies on India’s renowned textile hubs, including Surat, Banaras and Delhi, each known for its specialised craftsmanship, rich textile heritage and extensive fabric offerings.
In terms of traditional techniques, Ridhi believes that the market remains relatively untapped with there being immense scope for the contemporary reinterpretation of marodi, Pichwai-inspired artwork, hand painting, lightweight applications of zardozi, and traditional weaving techniques expressed through modern silhouettes.
“By reimagining these heritage crafts through a fresh design lens, the label aims to preserve their cultural significance while making them relevant for today’s consumer,” she stated.
COLLECTION PLANNING & INVENTORY STRATEGY
Ridhi Mehra follows a combination of seasonal launches and drop-based releases, with its annual calendar comprising bridal couture collections, festive collections, occasionwear drops and curated capsule edits. This approach allows the brand to remain responsive to evolving consumer demand while catering to key shopping moments throughout the year.
Furthermore, in order to ensure consistent product availability, the brand follows a continuous replenishment strategy for its signature and core styles across both online and offline channels. In addition, new launches, fresh edits and seasonal updates are introduced throughout the year, alongside seasonal updates around festive and wedding periods, keeping the assortment relevant and dynamic for their customers.
The brand is available to shop through its own flagship stores and selected leading multi-designer retailers in India. Internationally, the label has established a presence in key markets including the UK, USA and Canada, catering to the growing global Indian diaspora. Online, the brand is available to shop via the official Ridhi Mehra website alongside selected luxury e-commerce platforms, ensuring seamless access to the brand across both domestic and international markets.
Commenting upon how she envisions the label’s next phase of retail growth, Ridhi said, “The next phase of the label’s retail growth will be defined by more immersive flagship retail experiences, expansion into international markets, and a stronger luxury online shopping experience. We also see significant opportunities in the continued development of menswear, potential expansion into accessories and lifestyle categories, and hosting more trunk shows and experiential retail formats to deepen customer engagement.”
| AO: What have you learned from selling through multi brand retail that differs from direct-to-consumer channels?
RM: Selling through multi brand retail has offered the brand a wider customer reach, valuable regional market insights, and a deeper understanding of varied buying behaviour across different locations. In contrast, the direct-to-consumer channel has enabled stronger customer relationships for us and provided greater control over brand storytelling, increased opportunities for personalisation, and higher customer loyalty through direct feedback loops. AO: How do you make Indian craftsmanship relevant to someone who has grown up consuming global luxury brands? RM: By combining contemporary styling with modern silhouettes while placing equal emphasis on ease of wear and refined finishing. We strive to present Indian techniques through strong and relevant storytelling, while ensuring that every collection resonates with today’s audience but at the same time, we try to ensure that the overall product and customer experience meet global luxury expectations. |
