Retail giant Walmart is diving deeper into the metaverse with a range of initiatives aimed at enriching the virtual shopping journey. It is expanding its virtual fashion footprint by introducing Season 7 of its clothing brand, Scoop, which debuted in August 2023. Additionally, Walmart is facilitating in-game purchases of real-world items within the game House Flip, further enhancing the virtual shopping experience.
Walmart has strategically launched new clothes at Scoop to elevate its presence in the fashion domain within the mobile virtual world, Zepeto, specifically in the fashion realm called Runway Z. Within this digital fashion hub, players can access an array of virtual goods inspired by Scoop’s designs, allowing them to style their avatars and engage in fashion-forward experiences.
Walmart has also collaborated with game developer FUN-GI to integrate real-world product purchases seamlessly into the mobile game House Flip, giving players the option to acquire physical products related to their virtual house decor or items encountered in the game. The retail giant had previously unveiled an immersive back-to-school metaverse experience on the popular gaming platform Roblox.
Moreover, Walmart joined forces with Web3 creative studio People of Crypto Lab to unveil ‘Cultureverse,’ an immersive metaverse commemorating Hip-Hop’s 50th anniversary. This initiative also aims to expand technology access for Black creators through its Black & Unlimited platform, promoting innovation, inclusivity, and fostering digital connections between brands and consumers.
In summary, Walmart’s foray into the metaverse underscores its commitment to evolving retail experiences and embracing the digital frontier, offering a glimpse into the future of virtual shopping and engagement.
