On 28th February 2025, a collaborative awareness session on “Zero Defect Zero Effect (ZED)” was held by the Tiruppur Exporters Association (TEA), District Industries Centre (DIC) and FameTN.
Attendees included Kumar Duraisamy, Joint Secretary of the Tiruppur Exporters Association, M. Anand, Executive Committee Member, P. Karthigaivasan, General Manager, DIC, Tirupur, Tariq, Assistant Director, DIC, Tirupur , and Pavithra, Business Development Executive, RSJ Inspection.
Kumar Duraisamy stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently emphasised “Zero Defect Zero Effect” and the advantages of becoming certified by ZED. He also said that this Government initiative will aid in highlighting the fact that ZED has existed in India as a concept for thousands of years. As per his statement, Tiruppur is the primary cluster embracing sustainable manufacturing, and it is a worldwide issue.
ZED will help boost commerce, he added, and as India’s rejection rate is higher than that of rival nations like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam, it must be lowered by considering its effects and cutting back on carbon emissions, industrial waste, and other measures. To achieve this goal, the ZED awareness program will be beneficial.
Karthigaivasan stated that free Bronze certification, Government subsidies to support MSMEs globally, and certification for MSMEs would all be offered. According to him, “Zero Effect” refers to an industry devoid of manufacturing waste, while “Zero Defect” denotes a threat-free environment.
He also gave a briefing on various programs, including the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program (PMEGP), the Annal Ambedkar Business Champions Scheme (AABCS), the Kalaignar Handicraft Scheme, the Unemployed Youth Employment Generation Program (UYEGP), and the New Entrepreneur-cum-Enterprise Development Scheme (NEEDS).
Additionally, he emphasised that Tiruppur has the highest number of MSMEs, so Government programs should be used more frequently. He also mentioned that, as Kumar Duraisamy stated, the Government is providing a 25 per cent subsidy to the RMG sector, which is regarded as a very important sector and only includes sewing machines. To assist MSMEs, a request has been made to the Government to offer this subsidy to all of the RMG sector’s machinery.
RSJ Scheme, Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) Scheme, ZED Scheme, MSMEs, certification levels and their advantages, application process, basic information and document upload, financial aid, and technical support for MSMEs were all covered in detail by Pavithra during this session.
