As the European Union undergoes a series of sustainability regulations, the GOTS organisation, Global Standard is aiming to enhance the human rights training for GOTS auditors. According to media reports, Global Standard has received an impulse grant from the ISEAL Innovations Fund, ISEAL’s grant-making facility to support sustainability systems, to develop a continuous learning policy for GOTS auditors and a specialised training program focusing on GOTS Due Diligence Criteria.
This aims to boost the auditors’ capabilities in human rights due diligence through new training initiatives as there is an increasing demand for higher standards of corporate accountability in the EU.
The training initiative will pursue three key objectives including establishing a structured framework for ongoing professional development through a continuous learning policy; designing a specialised curriculum to equip auditors with the necessary skills to assess compliance with GOTS Due Diligence Criteria; and conducting a pilot training program for roughly 30 auditors, incorporating feedback from certification bodies and practical audit experiences to refine the training approach.
The project is supported by an Impulse Grant from ISEAL (International Social & Environmental Accreditation & Labelling), a Global membership Organization for credible sustainability standards, funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, and will be implemented in partnership with UpRights, an organisation dedicated to promoting human rights.
