India’s Ministry of Textiles (MoT) has come up with a plan to promote country’s textile industry. The plan includes hosting of an annual mega event titled ‘Textiles India’ and marketing strategies like ‘Common Umbrella Brand’.
The plan has been framed in association with 11 Export Promotion Councils (EPCs). However, it may be mentioned here that efforts were made in the past as well to create a mega event – ‘Tex Trend India’ for complete textile supply chain but it did not succeed, so there are apprehensions about this new event too.

Textiles Minister Smriti Zubin Irani informed that the mega event will cover the entire value chain i.e. from fibre to fashion. Around 800 to 1,000 Indian exhibitors will participate at the event, which is expected to be attended by about 2,500 international buyers and 1,000 Indian high volume retail buyers. International participants will also be invited to exhibit at the show. The Common Umbrella Brand would be created for Indian textiles industry by showcasing products from fibre to fashion at Indian Pavilion, organizing roadshows alongside the event and ‘India Eve’ (B2B Meetings) after business hours of the event.
The show will also include Technical Conference titled ‘Advantage India: Sourcing Destination for The World’, which will bring renowned national and international speakers and delegates on one platform, to establish India’s relevance in global textile sourcing, discuss key issues and way forward to achieve high growth. The Conference will also cover various facets of the sector like skilling, branding, financing, and technology upgradation.
