The beige era is losing ground. Fall 2026 is a season of saturated colour, and colour blocking is the device carrying it. In India the technique is arriving less on the ready-to-wear ramp and more in couture, festive wear and the designer catalogues that dress the wedding season.
At New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2026, designers used colour blocking as a key styling tool, producing bright, unexpected combinations with little fear of clashing. Chartreuse and purple recurred through fashion month, styled through tonal clashes, bold blocking and saturated hues. The groundwork came a season earlier, when Prada paired persimmon with muted teal and red with purple.
The dominant colour story at Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI was discipline, not clash. Aneeth Arora narrowed her palette to blue and white, and Pawan Sachdeva and Péro used indigo across entire shows.
Contrast arrived at India Couture Week. Arpita Mehta’s debut introduced burnt orange, teal and royal purple, and Aisha Rao used purple across dramatic lehengas. These are saturated colour stories rather than labelled colour blocking, but they show the same appetite.
The clearest evidence is in current catalogues. At the ethnic side Suta lists Double Trouble, a black and white saree on a page titled “Suta Colourblocked Zari Saree”. On Pernia’s Pop Up Shop, Meghna Panchmatia offers a Multi-Colored Ombre Pure Crepe Color Blocked Kurta Set and a Firozi & Grey version.
Sureena Chowdhri has an Ivory & Yellow Silk Chanderi Color-Blocked Kurta Set, Shivani Bhargava a Brown & Blue Chanderi Handblock Printed Color-Blocked Kurta Set, and Dhananjay a Multi-Colored Cotton Silk Color-Blocked Kurta Set.
On Aza, Mantra offers a handwoven Blue Handloom Cotton Color Blocked Kurta, and House of Koa a Yellow Chanderi Silk, Satin Cyrus Color Block Kurta With Pant.
At the menswear front, Masumi Mewawalla Men lists a Black & Beige Tissue set and a Hot Pink & Beige Natural Crepe set. Jubinav Chadha Men has a Beige & Ivory Dupion Resham Embroidered Color-Blocked Kurta Set. Bubber Couture offers a Blue Cotton Denim Color-Blocked Kurta Set, and Sarab Khanijou a Red Moss Crepe Color Blocked Kurta Set. Arihant Rai Sinha’s White Chanderi Sequins, Embroidery Green Colorblock Kurta and Line Out Line’s Grey Cotton Hyperdrive Embroidered Color Block Kurta complete the set.
Indo-fusion and contemporary too, are going big with colour blocking. Shwetanga’s panelled kurta set comes with bell-bottom pants and a fringed scarf. Ika lists a Color Blocked Shirt Kurta With Pant, and Poonam Kasera a Black Poplin Color Block Kurta Set with a shirt collar and slim-fit trousers. Nachiket Barve’s black and teal crushed silk kurta with a colourblock pattern sits at the couture end. On the western side, Ezra lists a Colorblock Blazer, and Zazu carries a Colorblock Midi Dress and a Colorblock Jumpsuit.
Indian colour blocking is described as contrasting colours placed side by side, such as fuchsia against papaya orange or emerald against gold, with gold and silver embroidery as neutral bridges. It positions the look for sangeets, cocktail nights and receptions. The 2026 version is softer and more wearable than earlier graphic blocking, pairing saturated colours with neutrals.
Colour blocking is showing up mainly in kurta sets and separates, where contrast can be built from solid fabrics without the cost of developing new prints. Indian shoppers appear to favour a bridging element over a raw clash, whether that is a neutral base, metallic embroidery or a tonal anchor. Menswear is taking part in a meaningful way too, with several labels listing colour-blocked kurta sets in tissue, crepe and denim.
