According to recent reports that appeared in certain sections of the media, the so-called workers of the truck motor workers union have been accused of extorting money from trucks carrying goods to India at the Benapole check post, in violation of the Government directives, it claimed.
Now, the truck owners’ association has reportedly threatened to stall trading across the land port if the alleged extortion by the workers is not stopped immediately, which many fear would seriously impede exports to India.
According to the reports, notwithstanding all efforts by the Bangladesh Government and various local organisations, some so-called workers at the Benapole check post are extorting Taka 150 per truck from lorries exporting goods to India from Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, Officer-in-Charge of the Benapole Port Police Station reportedly underlined that there is a delay in initiating any action as truck drivers are reluctant to report the same officially.
