Members of a delegation of the garment and textile industry returned to Ludhiana after a visit to Jammu and Kashmir. The visit was regarding their exploration of investment opportunities in the region.
The delegation, after meeting with various departments of the J&K Government and in the resulting discussions, said that the incentives offered were more lucrative than those they managed to get in Punjab.
They added that they were planning to organise a meeting of various business associations which would be apprised of the benefits of investing in a region like J&K. The interested parties among them would then submit a formal expression of interest to the Government of the region.
Harish Dua, President of Knitwear and Apparel Exporters Organisation, said, “Our delegation’s visit to J&K was very fruitful. During the meeting with different departments and senior officials, we became familiar with many schemes for the new industry. We also cleared our doubts regarding incentives on offer from the Government of J&K and from the Centre for new investors.”
He further added that various department heads they had met included Khalid Jahangir, Managing Director (MD), Jammu and Kashmir Trade Promotion Organization; Atul Sharma, MD, J&K Handloom & Handicraft Development Corporation and Raman Kesar, MD of J&K State Industrial Development Corporation.
He reiterated that after the interested businessmen give their expression of interest in investing in J&K to the Government there, they would meet the J&K Governor as well.
