Dhaka’s Islampur-based home textile manufacturer, Classical Hometex, has tried to evade paying Value Added Tax (VAT), by concealing data on nearly Taka 1.41 billion in sales.
Reports claimed this citing the concerned authorities.
Speaking to the media, Director General of the VAT Audit, Intelligence and Investigation Directorate Moinul Khan, reportedly, maintained his department conducted an investigation at Classical Hometex’s sales centre in Islampur on 24 November while adding the investigation, led by Deputy Director Tanvir Ahmed, found Classical Hometex has dodged Taka 44.3 million in VAT from 2017 to October 2021 even if with 2.0 per cent interest, the total dues ballooned to around Taka 60 million.
The reports further added the investigators checked Classical Hometex computers at the sales centre and found hidden data on sales that were inconsistent with the record that Classical Hometex had shown to the authorities while adding the company had sold products worth over Taka 2.0 billion in the period, but it showed Taka 7.67 billion in sales, hiding the information on the sales of about Taka 1.41 billion.
