Even as Bangladesh’s apparel exports continue the good run, a recent study has found the country’s apparel export recovery has primarily been volume driven as the price hike rate has been very low.
This was underlined by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), the finding of which was, reportedly, made public recently.
The CPD in its Independent Review of Bangladesh’s Development (IRBD), reportedly, maintained the rise in the productivity has not being realised through higher prices while adding, although it is helping the country’s apparels to remain competitive, this also has important implications for wages.
It may be mentioned here Bangladesh has two main export destinations for its garment items, the US and European Union, with US accounting for 24 per cent of the shipments, and the EU accounting for 64 per cent even if the CPD study, reportedly, found that apparel export from Bangladesh to both these markets increased between July and October of the current fiscal year compared to the corresponding period of last fiscal year.
