Leading forwarder RIF Line and its subsidiary, Italy’s Kalypso Compagnia Di Navigation SPA have introduced a new shipping service to facilitate the shipment of cargoes between Bangladesh and Europe even as the new service is expected to bring in some semblance to the chaotic situation prevailing in the shipping business, owing to the pandemic.
Media reports maintained this citing the concerned officials.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Bangladesh representative of the service, Rashed Ahmed, reportedly, stated the new service will decrease transit time and encourage more buyers from Europe while contributing hugely to the export trade.
According to industry insiders, the volatility in the shipping sector has intensified in the last six months or so even as freight between the Chittagong and Europe route is now at least 750 per cent higher than the pre-pandemic period, while further adding buyers of apparel items as well as the importers were paying freight charges, peaking at US $ 20,000 per 20-foot equivalent unit (TEU), on the back of a reduced capacity of the global shipping industry following the reopening of global economies.
