The company has launched natural plant-based, machine dyed, Indigo denim product under the brand name ‘Nature’s Blue’ – Developed in a tripartite collaboration between Ministry of Textiles (Government of India), South India Textile Research Association (SITRA) and KG Fabriks.
The initiative was funded by GOI and KG Fabriks.
As per the information shared by the company, Nature’s Blue is manufactured using Green Alkali, replacing caustic, and it also uses 100 per cent greener and biodegradable reducing agent.
With Nature’s Blue, the company now replaces the synthetic Indigo dyes used traditionally with 100 per cent plant-based natural indigo dye, in breakthrough technology, soon to be patented by SITRA. This is the most truly sustainable denim manufactured by anyone commercially across the globe.
Srihari Balakrishnan, MD of the company said “Right from inception in 2005, we have boldly taken the sustainability route for denim production. As the first organisation to use biomass to fuel our processes, KGFL also adopts energy-efficient measures, water recycling and controls greenhouse emissions in its endeavour to pioneer planet-friendly denim fabrics. Our company is far ahead of other denim mills in terms of true sustainability. Our conservation efforts have helped save drinking water needs for 800,000 people every day. Recycled polyester usage amounts to 5,500,000 PET bottles being converted into fabrics every month.”
The commercial production has commenced and the clients of the company have welcomed this development with excitement and the coming season will have brands using this fabric.
Each supply made will be backed by SITRA certification, for the authenticity of the Indigo dyes used in the product manufactured.
