The political and social unrest in other major garment supplying countries have favoured the buyers who are now supporting compliant and politically stable options, bringing fresh business to India. This has proved to be a boon for many buying agencies particularly in Tirupur. Amongst them are Knit Sourcing Inc. and Dean Textiles Buying Service, both of whom are seeing good growth in business this year.
Knit Sourcing Inc., a design-oriented buying house, which is also a manufacturer and exporter dealing in eco-friendly apparel, working with flexible minimum quantities in variations of styles, is benefiting from the recent incidents. As a buying office, the company provides complete apparel solutions including new product designing, sample development, planning, production management, quality control and logistics, by daily updating the developments of orders so that the customers are assured of better services.
“Due to the uncertainty related to working conditions in Bangladesh, post-Rana Plaza incident and the political unrests in Turkey recently, delaying shipments, buyers are looking to source their products from socially responsible destinations. We at Knit Sourcing focus on sustainable development due to which we are getting good orders. In order to get business, it is important for industry players to mark their niche and be the best in it,” asserts Anandanan, Managing Partner, Knit Sourcing Inc.
Another upbeat buying office is Dean Textiles Buying Service which is also seeing a good growth in business compared to last year. The company which caters to a wide range of menswear, womenswear and kidswear, is seeing a surge in orders especially from the US. “India has gained an advantage over other manufacturing bases because of its reasonably high level of compliant factories,” informs M. Anand, MD, Dean Textiles Buying Service.
No doubt, though India has a cost disadvantage in comparison to countries like Bangladesh, Vietnam, etc. but the non-compliance issues in Bangladesh is resulting in buyers looking at India as a mature market. Also, the depreciation of the Indian currency has also contributed to the growth of the country’s clothing exports this year.
