ASOS has once again proven that fashion force can do some good. The sought after e- retailer has collaborated with Katharine Hamnett, a designer well known for her politically relevant and inspired t-shirts to launch a capsule collection called ‘Choose Love’. All proceeds from the collection will be donated to ‘Help Refugees’, a non-profit organisation working to support refugees in the Middle East and Europe.
As such, massive fashion retailer ASOS has launched this collection in order to spread awareness about relevant issues and set up a talking point to do something about it. Last month, ASOS had launched an adaptive jumpsuit that can also be worn by wheelchair users.
The prices of the collection items range from 6 pounds to 22 pounds; the collection is now live on the official ASOS website from today. Another added benefit of these pieces is that they are good for the environment too as all the articles are made from organic cotton.
It was only until 1980’s that Ms. Katharine Hamnett rose to reputation with her political protest T-shirts. The very famous pop group Wham! wore ‘Choose Life’ slogan T-shirt in their hit music video of 1984 called ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go Go’.
Additionally, the other pioneering moment was in 1983, when the designer met then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher who wore a T-shirt bearing the slogan ‘58 per cent Don’t Want Pershing’. The T-shirt was in orientation towards controversial Pershing II guided missile that the United States held in then West Germany. Most recently, her STOP BREXIT T-shirts had hit the headline, hard.
‘Help Refugees’ has reported an approximate 25.4 million refugees around the world and more than half of them under the age of 18. This initiative by ASOS is a great effort to help those who are actually in need of such charities.
