In order to examine the transition of Amritsar’s traditional textile industry towards innovation-driven technical textiles, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Amritsar zone, in partnership with Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), recently hosted a seminar titled Future of Technical Textiles in Amritsar. Belgian industry executives and lecturers attended the event.
The Chairman of the CII Amritsar Zone, Davinder Singh, underlined that it is time to move Amritsar away from its traditional image and establish it as a forward-thinking centre of technical textile innovation. This change will be built on a solid basis of industry and academic cooperation.
Guru Nanak Dev University’s vice-chancellor, Dr. Karamjeet Singh, promised the industry full institutional support. He said that the institution is prepared to provide in-depth research, training modules, industry-focused surveys, technology consulting, and support to entrepreneurs looking to enter the technical textile space. For registered companies in the textile, garment, and handloom industries, the Golden Jubilee Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre has already been providing expertise and industry connectivity support.
Flanders Investment & Trade (Belgium) Trade Commissioner Babette Desfossez also spoke at the session, sharing success stories from the thriving technical textile sector in that nation.
