A pioneer of not only the Italian and global hosiery industry, and the technical force behind the Santoni seamless knitting revolution, Tiberio Lonati, CEO and technical supremo of the Santoni Group, passed away at the age of 69 at his home in Brescia after suffering a brief illness.
The popular Italian textile machinery manufacturer Santoni, better known for its pioneering work in seamless clothing technology, was established in 1919 with its first Italian circular knitting machines for socks for men and women. The company in 1988 joined hands with the prestigious Lonati Group, a worldwide leader in the production of sock and pantyhose machines. Soon the company linked its name to the phenomenon of ‘seamless’, and became a world leader in the production of electronic circular machines for ‘seamless’ clothing.
Today Santoni meets 97% of the global demand for the production of seamless wear machines. Due to the potential and versatility of their machines, the company has grown from the initial phase of developing machinery for lingerie to outerwear and more recently sportswear, until the last achievement in the field of knitwear like medicalwear.
