Roberto Inglesi, a well known name in India with over 39 years of experience in shirt production, presented a seminar on Stream Production in Colombo recently. Improvements to the production system using modern techniques and procedures are a ‘must’ for any organization to make it cost-effective and competitive, feels Roberto. The Stream Production System is a concentrate of different experiences and an amalgamation of proven, modern production systems and sewing techniques used in industry for ‘cost reduction and efficiency improvement’.
Roberto, holding a gold and silver medal in Time and Methods Analysis, has developed the technique over the years by merging his own experiences with an overhead conveyor system. Preparation and assembly areas are synchronized differently. His systems demand strict line balancing and use Kanbans to keep close tab on the WIP, so that almost all workers have sufficient buffer to cover any contingencies.
Roberto is satisfied working with videos for setting standards. End result is, a drastic reduction in non-value adding work, normally performed by the sewing machinists. The incentive earnings too have been rationalized in line with the Stream System.
