IMG recently unveiled the schedule of designer runway shows and other events for Afterpay Australian Fashion Week (AAFW): The Experience, which will take place at Sydney’s Carriageworks from 15-19 May.
Australian fashion designer icons like Michael Lo Sordo, Gary Bigeni, Karla ‘peti’, Iordanes Spyridon Gogos, Erik Yvon and Cue will present runway presentations throughout the official AAFW calendar.
The David Jones Indigenous Fashion Projects runway, sponsored by Afterpay, TAFE NSW’s Fashion Design Studio and DHL Next Gen, AAFW’s young designer programme, are among the group presentations that will take place.
This season, in addition to the runway presentations, the week’s ‘Talks’ series will continue with educational panels on subjects like gender diversity in the fashion industry, club culture and fashion, fashion criticism and major directions in Australian fashion.
Natalie Xenita, Vice President-Managing Director of IMG fashion events and properties, Asia-Pacific, said, “This year’s five-day programme features Australia’s most exciting designers showcasing their creativity on Asia-Pacific’s biggest global fashion stage.”
“The consumer-integrated fashion week model was pioneered right here in Australia, and the line-up of runway shows and experiences offers fashion fans an unrivalled opportunity to experience the excitement of fashion week in person and at AAFW.com.au, the digital destination for AAFW, where they can tune into the shows from anywhere in the world live and on-demand,” Xenita continued.
With the development of an immersive runway showcasing more than 50 Australian companies, the buy-now-pay-later company Afterpay will team up with the #WeWearAustralian initiative, which was launched to boost the country’s apparel industry in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak.
Previously, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia was referred to as AAFW.
