It is no secret that Google has been working towards building its search results in order to offer more organic tips rather than just a string of websites that match your searched term and to validate this, the company on Thursday launched a new addition of its image search function, named ‘style ideas.’
The feature enables users to browse images based on their search results for outfit ideas and other product categories by scroll-searching through “inspirational lifestyle images and outfits that showcase how the product can be worn in real life”.
Google says that the idea is to let users see their outfits in real-world settings to see how things fashionably fit together before they buy.
The concept behind this is for example, if you tap on an image of a Zara bag, usual information on where the picture is from would be shown, but along with that, a gallery of “inspirational lifestyle images and outfits” that showcase the bag in the real-world and similar products will also be displayed (which would be useful for scouting those pieces at a lower price point).

According to TechCrunch, the images shown in both “Style Ideas” and as “similar items” are determined by an algorithm, which prioritizes images that are from sources focused on a specific product type, appear as a complete look, and are from authoritative sites.
“As an added bonus, you’ll also see an expanded carousel for “similar items” while searching for apparel products,” Google’s blog post reads, adding, “That means whether you’re researching shorts and sneakers or checking out sunglasses and handbags, you’ll be able to find product offerings that may suit your tastes.”
Currently, “Style Ideas” is only available on your android mobile phones. If you have an iPhone, you’ll have to search via Safari or Chrome web browsers.
