
Owing to its credible array of CSR activities under the Madura Fashion & Lifestyle (MFL) Jan Kalyan Trust, Madura Clothing was accredited with Golden Peacock Award for Corporate Social Responsibility for the year 2013. The Golden Peacock Awards for Corporate Social Responsibility, 2014 were hosted at the Hotel ITC Windsor Manor, Bengaluru to felicitate organizations that effectively manage social and environmental concerns in addition to economic goals, and are able to balance financial profits, economic value addition and social cause good. Nikhil Kumar, Governor of Kerala gave away the awards.
A CSR vision which reads, “To actively contribute to the society and economic development of the communities in which we operate; in so doing, build a better, sustainable way of life for the weaker section of the society and raise the country’s human development index”, has an objective to initiate and implement community development programs relating to education, sustainable livelihood, health & hygiene, and social causes to benefit the general public, living in and around Bangalore Rural and Urban districts of Karnataka.
Supporting educational needs of school students through the “Vidya Vikas” initiatives, MFL Jan Kalyan Trust aids students in continuing their education. “Through these initiatives we have supported more than 10,000 students studying in Government schools and we aim to see students as many as possible continuing their higher education and becoming successful professionals like Engineers, Doctors etc,” said Purushottam Rao, Head CSR.

In the last 3 years, 14 eye camps have been conducted, wherein more than 5,300 people from rural Karnataka were benefited, more than 1800 pair of spectacles were provided and 299 successful cataract operations done. “Helping people regain vision and return to a normal life is an immensely rewarding endeavour that has been made possible through the several health camps organized by MFL along with reputed hospitals and local governing bodies. We want to reduce blindness aligning with Government of India’s project Drishti which has a target to reduce blindness from 1.4% to 0.3% by 2020,” said Purushottam. In the recently successfully concluded polio drive, Madura vaccinated around 2 lakh children below the age of 5 and contributed to eradication of polio from India.
Madura also extends its helping hands to many of the social causes live, supporting orphanages, old age centres, special people and street children, besides planting trees and working at flood relief camps, etc.
