
A seminar titled “Application of Geotextiles in Bangladesh” organized by the Textile Engineering Division of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), was successfully conducted on Tuesday evening at the IEB Headquarters in Ramna, Dhaka.
The event gathered eminent professionals, academics, and industry leaders to explore the role and practical use of geotextiles in the country’s infrastructure development. The session commenced with a welcome speech by Engineer Md. Saidur Rahman, Vice Chairman of the Textile Engineering Division.
A key presentation was delivered by Professor Dr. Md. Mahbubul Haque, PhD (UK), Professor and Program Director of M.Sc. in Textile Engineering at Daffodil International University, who highlighted the importance of geotextiles in modern civil engineering projects.
The seminar was presided over by Engineer Mahiuddin Ahmed Selim, Chairman of the Textile Engineering Division, with moderation provided by Engineer Mostafa-e-Zaman (Selim), Secretary of the Division.
Discussions focused on the application of geotextiles in road construction, erosion control, and other infrastructural projects, emphasising their significance in environmental protection and sustainable development. Leaders from various IEB engineering divisions, along with engineers from government and private sectors, participated in the event, making it a valuable platform for knowledge sharing and potential collaboration in the future.
