The Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) has taken a major step toward strengthening Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices within its member factories. The organisation recently initiated a stakeholder consultation to develop a unified ESG data platform aimed at enhancing transparency and sustainability in the industry.
The consultation session was held on 4th August 2025, at BKMEA’s Dhaka office and was led by Executive President Fazlee Shamim Ehsan, with Director Minhazul Hoque also in attendance. The meeting brought together representatives from five member factories, along with BKMEA officials and a team from the association’s ESG software development partner.
Discussions centered on addressing challenges in collecting ESG data at the factory level, aligning reporting standards, and ensuring smooth integration of data into the upcoming platform. BKMEA highlighted the importance of ESG data in providing vital insights into environmental impact, labour and social practices, and corporate governance. The initiative aims to foster transparency, build trust, and promote accountability within the industry.
By developing this comprehensive ESG platform, BKMEA seeks to support responsible manufacturing and bolster Bangladesh’s reputation for ethical and sustainable production in the global knitwear market. The move reflects the industry’s increasing commitment to environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and governance excellence.
