
Social justice minister M K Muneer, MLA of Kozhikode South assembly constituency has initiated a scheme called ‘Vasthra Mandalam’, under which the expertise of over 500 women skilled in designing and tailoring will be utilized for developing Kozhikode South into a major hub for apparel industry. Post the performance improvement training of the selected women, readymade garment units will be set up. The minister has appealed to the garment brands across the country to cooperate with the scheme in a manner that the garment brand will supply the material and the women groups will stitch the garment as per their demand. The women will be trained at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Kannur at a cost of Rs. 8 lakh.
