India placed its first defence export order to the Republic of Suriname on 28th January 2025, through the Ordnance Clothing Factory (OCF), Avadi, a division of Defence PSU Troop Comforts Limited, which is part of the Ministry of Defence.
B.S. Reddy, General Manager of the Indian Ordnance Factories Service, kicked off the ceremony. About 4,500 army uniforms, worth US $ 0.197 million (Rs. 1.71 crore), are included in the cargo as a show of goodwill. It is anticipated that the uniforms would arrive at the port of Suriname in 60–70 days.
Reddy stated that the military uniforms have been offered by the Ministry of Defence to the Ministry of Defence of Suriname to strengthen the diplomatic relationships between the two countries. He added that these uniforms were Made in India and tested in India and that he was confident that given the excellent quality of the uniforms, a bigger order will be received.
The OCF is hopeful that through this deal, actual orders worth US $ 0.58 million (Rs. 5 crore) will be received from Suriname.
