Ethiopia has seen a significantly slumping apparel exports (in value terms) to USA during the first 4-month period of 2021.
The African country shipped US $ 65.84 million worth of apparels to the USA in the mentioned period and declined 14.17 per cent on Y-o-Y basis, at a time when US import has grown by over 14 per cent from its worldwide imports in apparel segment.
However, in terms of volumes, Ethiopia marked a decent growth of 3.55 per cent and exported 31.19 million SME of garments to the USA.
Values of both cotton apparels and MMF apparels were down and that surely is a concern for Ethiopia as it was one of the few countries that performed positive in 2020 – that was a COVID-19 ravaged year.
Cotton apparels constituted US $ 42.22 million of total export values, falling by 3.18 per cent on Y-o-Y basis. On the other hand, MMF apparels tumbled by 27.36 per cent in Jan.-Apr. ’21 to US $ 22.92 million.
