
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Bangladesh has increased almost to the pre-pandemic level.
This was underlined by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
The UNCTAD in its World Investment Report 2022, while underlining that the economy is almost back to normal amidst a rapid fall in COVID-19 cases, mentioned FDI rose by 13 per cent to US $ 2.9 billion in Bangladesh last year, while number of international project finance deals tripled to 14, reaching US $ 4.7 billion, the largest project being the construction of a container terminal in Ananda Bazar for US $ 2 billion.
The UNCTAD further underlined FDI in the least developed countries (LDCs) increased by 13 per cent to US $ 26 billion, while adding in the nine Asian LDCs, FDI inflows rose by 6 per cent to US $ 9.8 billion, or one-third of the LDC total.
