Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has urged the Government of Bangladesh to exempt the garment industry from Tax at Source for at least two years. The issue was raised during a pre-budget discussion held recently with National Board of Revenue (NBR). The meeting was presided over by NBR Chairman Md. Nojibur Rahman.
The organization also urged the Government to frame policy for the garment industry for a period of five years as frequent changes in the policy bring chaos for traders. In its 12-point demands, BGMEA has also sought slashing of Corporate Tax to 10 per cent from the existing 20 per cent for the five years starting next fiscal year.

The meeting was also attended by various other organizations such as Bangladesh Garments Accessories and Packaging Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGAPMEA), Bangladesh Jute Goods Exporters Association, Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) and Exporters Association of Bangladesh (EAB) attended the meeting.
