Notwithstanding the fallouts of the COVID-19 pandemic, apparel exports from Bangladesh to the USA made a strong rebound in the January to June period of 2021, growing by around 26.81 per cent.
Reports maintained this adding as per the data of US Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel, in the first half of 2021, garment imports by US from Bangladesh increased by US $ 662 million to US $ 3.13 billion from what was in the same period of 2020, US $ 2.45 billion, thanks to massive inoculation programme against COVID-19 in the USA, resulting in an increased demand for the apparel items in the market.
Meanwhile, interacting with the media, garment exporters in Bangladesh have, reportedly, stated that as USA opened its business after massive vaccination drive, both inquiries and export orders from buyers in US had increased in recent months even as the Managing Director of Rising Group, Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu, on his part added, “…as the US Government withdrew COVID restrictions on movement of people and business after a massive vaccination programme, demand for apparel products has increased in the US market for the last few months…”
