Even if retail sales have increased significantly in USA and Europe, following opening of stores subsequent to mass COVID-19 vaccination drives, resulting in Bangladesh now getting a lot of inquiries and work orders from these two export destinations, garment makers here in Bangladesh, despite their willingness and available capacities, are unable to take in increased orders due to rise in yarn prices, especially in the local market.
Media reports maintained this while adding the garment makers have voiced their concerns regarding the same recently.
At a meeting held recently at the BGMEA office in Dhaka, which was attended by leaders of the BGMEA apart from those of Bangladesh Terry Towel & Linen Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BTTLMEA) and the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), it was, reportedly, decided that discussions should be held with Government policy makers and seek their support on buying yarn at reasonable prices.
Faruque Hassan (BGMEA President), reportedly, chaired the meeting, which was attended by First Vice-President of BKMEA Mohammad Hatem, BGMEA Vice-President Shahidullah Azim, Vice-President (Finance) Khandoker Rafiqul Islam, BKMEA Director Fazlee Shamim Ehsan, BGMEA Directors Abdullah Hil Rakib, Asif Ashraf, Md. Mohiuddin Rubel, Rajiv Chowdhury and former Director Ashikur Rahman Tuhin.
