Businesses in Bangladesh have to wait 11 days and 6 hours to get their cargo released after arrival at seaports in the country.
This has, reportedly, been found according to the Time Release Study (TRS) 2022 — TRS is a method endorsed by the World Customs Organisation to measure the time taken by the authorities to release import or export cargoes and is recognised as a means of identifying bottlenecks and improving performance in the export or import process — of Bangladesh’s National Board of Revenue (NBR).
The findings of the study as per which land ports in comparison take 10 days and 8 hours to release goods while seven days and 11 hours are taken to clear their cargoes from airports, were released recently at an event held in Dhaka.
Incidentally, time taken to get cargoes from airports, which is seven days and 11 hours, is the lowest time taken by the international entry points.
Chittagong is Bangladesh’s principal seaport and is responsible for handling lion’s share of imports and exports.
