
The Bangladesh-Nepal Joint Steering Committee on enhancing cooperation in power sector recently held its fifth meeting at the 1,320MW power plant in Patuakhali, Bangladesh.
This is as per reports, which underlined in the said meeting the delegation of both the countries were led respectively by Nepal’s Power, Water Resources and Irrigation Secretary Dinesh Kumar Ghimire and Bangladesh Power Division Secretary Md. Habibur Rahman even as both the parties reportedly discussed issues related to construction of hydropower plants in Nepal under joint investment of Bangladesh and Nepal, import of electricity from the Himalayan kingdom using existing interconnection grid lines over India as well as construction of new transmission lines.
It may be mentioned here, Bangladesh have had to face power crises lately, which had a very adverse impact on the industries including readymade garments and textile sector as production took a hit on account of the same.
