The President of the apex garment makers’ body- the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Faruque Hassan advocated developing high-value apparel through the use of homegrown fabrics like muslin, which he felt will just not help promote the country’s cultural heritage on the global stage but also create opportunities for the apparel industry of Bangladesh.
This is as per reports, which underlined the BGMEA chair came up with the observations while addressing a seminar on ‘Reviving traditional Bangladeshi muslin and weaving techniques and prospects of investment in the sector’ in capital Dhaka recently.
In the seminar organised by the Bangladesh Handloom Board, the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, Faruque Hassan reportedly underlined the need for all the stakeholders concerned to put in concerted efforts towards reviving the tradition of muslin fabrics and weaving techniques.
The seminar was attended amongst others by Dr. Shamsul Alam, State Minister, Ministry of Planning; Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi (Birpatik) MP; Md. Abdur Rauf, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles and Jute and Masud Bin Momen, Foreign Secretary, Lokman Hossain Miah, Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Investment Department Authority (BIDA).
