Leaders of Bangladesh apparel sector have sought solution to the HS code-related issues even as they expressed apprehensions, if complications revolving the same is not taken care of, it would lead to losing the new markets.
According to reports, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association’s Vice-President Rakibul Alam Chowdhury maintained this at a view exchange meeting with the Chittagong Customs House, in which were also present representatives of various business organisations, even as he opined that new markets were continuously being opened up and the country’s apparel industry has to import machinery along with raw materials to cater to those markets, but due to HS code-related issues, they are facing problems in getting clearance for equipment and raw materials.
Speaking at the meeting, Executive President of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) Mohammad Hatem reportedly recommended an exemption from HS code for imports brought under the bond facility.
