
After a decline of 9.2 per cent year-on-year in December 2022, Turkey’s apparel exports recovered in January 2023, increasing 8.55 per cent as per the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute and the country’s Ministry of trade.
Turkey exported apparel worth US $ 1.536 billion in January 2023, as compared to US $ 1.415 billion in the previous year.
Category-wise, exports of knitted and crocheted clothing and accessories (HS chapter 61) earned US $ 833.585 million in January 2023, registering a growth of 2.4 per cent over US $ 814.110 million earned during the same month of the previous year.
Exports of non-knitted apparel and accessories (HS chapter 62) were valued at US $ 702.640 million, showing an increase of 16.9 per cent compared to US $ 600.924 million exports in January 2022.

Turkey’s imports of cotton, cotton yarn and cotton textiles, however, were negligible in January 2023, while last year, Turkey’s imports had increased to US $ 4.842 billion over US $ 3.714 billion in 2021, which is an increase of 30.3 per cent.
Apparel exports from Turkey increased by 6.46 per cent year-on-year and reached US $ 19.475 billion, however, in December 2022, exports decreased to US $ 0.890 billion, with a year-on-year decrease of 9.2 per cent.
